A major fire at an ATLANTIC CITY transmitter site knocked several ACCESS.1 stations off the air this morning. Classic Rock WMGM (103.7 THE SHARK), News/Talk WOND-A, Oldies WTKU-A, and TV station WMGM-LP (Channel 7) all went dark.
WMGM returned to the air at 10:15A (ET) this morning, utilizing the back-up transmitter of crosstown MILLENNIUM Country WPUR, transmitting from the top of the TRUMP TAJ MAHAL casino. WTKU is still on the air via its main FM frequency (98.3) which broadcasts from another site in nearby OCEAN CITY. WOND can still be heard in some parts of SOUTH JERSEY on 1580 AM via simulcast partner WGYM-A/HAMMONTON, while efforts continue to get WOND back on the air at 1400 AM. WMGM-TV is still on the air via their main full-power transmitter on Channel 40, which broadcasts from a site near AVALON, NJ.
ACCESS.1's BILL CAIN tells ALL ACCESS that the building is a total loss, as is most of the eqiupment. The fire is under investigation by the local fire marshall. For more on the story, click here.
