Former local DJ and early rap artist LYNN TOLLIVER won a $1.2 million judgment by a NEW YORK jury regarding the unauthorized sampling of his 1983 song, "I Need a Freak," by the BLACK EYED PEAS, reports CLEVELAND.COM.
The sample was used in BEP's hit single, "My Humps," which sold over 2 million copies in the U.S.
The case took 10 years to resolve for TOLLIVER, who was a mainstay on CLEVELAND radio for 32 years. After being laid off as VP/Operations at WZAK, he retired and moved to TAMPA.
