Senate Majority Leader BILL FRIST's attempt to "hotline" a broadcast indecency bill has beem blocked by several senators from both parties, who placed procedural "holds" on the bill to stop it from progressing.
FRIST's move was seen as an attempt to get around Senate Commerce Committee chair TED STEVENS' inaction on the Senate version of the indecency bill, which would radically increase fines for broadcast indecency. STEVENS was not one of the Senators placing a hold on the "hotlined" bill, although he has been delaying the Senate bill to see what the industry's response to indecency complaints will be.
