On FRIDAY (5/5), EMMIS went to court to fight a MAY 1st eviction notice filed by the NEW YORK CITY DISTRICT COUNCIL OF CARPENTERS, which owns the building they lease space in for WQHT (HOT 97), WRKS (98.7 KISS-FM), and Smooth Jazz WQCD (CD 101.9) at 395 Hudson St. EMMIS was served with the eviction notice following following a series of shooting incidents involving HOT 97. The lastest was when rapper JAMAL "GRAVY" WOOLARD took a bullet in his buttocks while on his way to an interview with FUNKMASTER FLEX, according to AllHipHop.com.
A report in the NY DAILY NEWS (5/6), "EMMIS also asked a Manhattan Supreme Court judge to stop the union from imposing `severe and unreasonable' restrictions that include blocking visitors to HOT 97. Union attorney ROBERT ABRAHAMS said that security staffers are checking all station visitors because many say they are going to KISS-FM when they're really headed to HOT 97."
