ISLAND DEF JAM has downsized its staff, as VARIETY reports that SVP/Film, TV and Soundtrack JONATHAN MCHUGH and EVP CHRIS HICKS are among around 20 employees who left the company last week.
MCHUGH will reactivate his licensing and music supervision company, SONG STEW ENTERTAINMENT, while HICKS will now serve as a consultant, working with acts like JUSTIN BIEBER.
Approximately a dozen administrative personnel, marketing staffers and regional promotion reps have also exited over the past week. A statement released by an IDJ spokesperson noted, "Our plan to expand our creative investments is on track. And while the process of restructuring is always difficult, we've made substantial progress already in reducing costs and enabling our labels to be even more effective and nimble in this challenging marketplace. With efficiencies now in place, we are focused on growing each of our companies."
