MICHIGAN STATE UNIVERSITY noncommercial News-Talk WKAR-A, Classical-News-Talk WKAR-F and PBS affiliate WKAR-TV/EAST LANSING, MI have laid off several employees, reports the LANSING STATE JOURNAL. A spokesperson for the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at MSU, KIRSTEN KHIRE, said that the layoffs were spread across the stations' divisions but did not specify how many employees were laid off. The paper named reporter ROB SOUTH as exiting by the end of SEPTEMBER.
WKAR's operations were merged by the university with the College of Communication Arts and Sciences earlier this year, and campus student station WDBM GM GARY REID took over from DEANNE HAMILTON as Director of Broadcasting on an acting basis on JULY 15th.
