TODD SMITH, the former WDJX disc jockey known on the air as TODD KELLY was convicted in 2008 of scamming people in LOUISVILLE out of thousands of dollars (NET NEWS 2/11/2008) will soon be out of prison. WHAS-TV 11 reports that, "according to a letter from the FEDERAL BUREAU OF PRISONS, TODD SMITH will be released to DISMAS HOUSE in APRIL of next year. He will then be free to leave that JULY."
SMITH had been sentenced to 15 years in state prison, and seven years in federal prison. After early release, he will be on probation and will have to repay the more than $75,000 he scammed from donors. If he doesn’t, or if he violates his parole, he will have to serve out the remainder of his sentence.
"I’m sure he's not going to be a factor in the LOUISVILLE area again because everybody’s on to him, but it is rather stunning that he was able to pull the wool over all of our eyes like that," said TERRY MEINERS, a local radio show host. "I know that he bamboozled a lot of people in this city. It's painful for them to hear about it again, and he’ll be out next year."
