TOWNSQUARE MEDIA/ALBANY, NY names DAN AUSTIN as Market Manager, replacing ROBERT AUSFELD, who is retiring after 38 years in the market. AUSTIN joins from CITADEL/SYRACUSE, where he was GM. It's a return to NEW YORK's CAPITAL DISTRICT for AUSTIN, who was GM at ALBANY BROADCASTING for three years, and Sales Mgr. for four.
BIZJOURNAL.COM notes AUSFELD, 61, "plans to spend time with his wife MARION, three children and three grandchildren, aged three weeks to three years."
"It’s been a great ride, but I want to spend time with the family while I’m feeling good and my health is good," he said. "It just seemed like the right thing to do. AUSFELD said his biggest memory of the past 38 years is watching the evolution of the business. When he started, ownership was limited to one AM and one FM. Then the rules were changed, allowing for much larger groups, and a buying frenzy followed. As the result of a series of acquisitions, AUSFELD worked for 11 owners without changing offices."
"Not many people in radio had the success he has had in his hometown," said RONALD "BUZZ" BRINDLE, who worked with AUSFELD for several years. "BOBBY is the king. He has quite a legacy."
