PAUL FINEBAUM's suit against CITADEL BROADCASTING has been unsealed, and the BIRMINGHAM BUSINESS JOURNAL reports that the syndicated sports host's allegation is that CITADEL coerced him into signing an amendment to his contract on FEBRUARY 16th under threat of pulling his show off the air.
FINEBAUM, the influential sports talker based at CITADEL's Sports WJOX-A-F/BIRMINGHAM, alleges that CITADEL's Chapter 11 filing without his permission was a breach of his contract. In response, CITADEL Senior Counsel CHRISTOPHER SOVA wrote, "CITADEL fully expects Mr. FINEBAUM to continue to honor the commitments to CITADEL he willingly and knowingly made when he entered into his employment agreement and the amendments thereto."
Cox Flipping Birmingham's 97.3 The Buck To Sports
Where would FINEBAUM go if he exits WJOX? The answer may be COX MEDIA GROUP Country WNCB (97.3 THE BUCK), which plans to flip to Sports as 97.3 THE ZONE on AUGUST 30th. The BIRMINGHAM BUSINESS JOURNAL reports that THE ZONE will launch with a morning show hosted by the voice of the UNIVERSITY OF ALABAMA CRIMSON TIDE, ELI GOLD, and former AUBURN quarterback STAN WHITE. Former WJOX host MATT COULTER will host noon-3p, and the station will be affiliated with YAHOO! SPORTS RADIO. GM DAVID DUBOSE said that his new Sports station would "love" to have FINEBAUM but added, "We're not in a position to hire PAUL unless he's released from his current contract. We're like everyone else, waiting to see the outcome of the court action here."
