WARNER MUSIC GROUP CORP. (WMG) will establish a joint venture between its SOUTH KOREAN unit and SOUTH KOREAN mobile phone operator SK TELECOM to sell music through mobile phones and other digital platforms, reports REUTERS. The deal covers only WARNER MUSIC KOREA's local bands such as pop singer JANG NARA.
"From WARNER's point of view, this is another step in securing digital delivery channels. KOREA is a big music market on its own, and this could help them get a better sense of how to offer their content to phone operators," commented HYUNDAI SECURITIES analyst LEE SHIHOON.
