Condolences to family and friends of longtime BOOTH NEWSPAPERS DETROIT LIONS beat reporter and afternoon co-host for CLEAR CHANNEL Sports WDFN-A/DETROIT and WMAX (ESPN 96.1)/GRAND RAPIDS, TOM "KILLER" KOWALSKI, who died this morning at 51. The GRAND RAPIDS PRESS reports that KOWALSKI was found unresponsive at his home and was pronounced dead at a hospital in OAKLAND COUNTY, MI. KOWALSKI started as LIONS beat reporter for the OAKLAND PRESS and moved to BOOTH NEWSPAPERS and MLIVE.COM in 1997. He co-hosted afternoons with SEAN BALIGIAN and RYAN TERPSTRA at WDFN and WMAX.
A statement from CLEAR CHANNEL DETROIT President/Market Manager TIL LEVESQUE read, "It is with a very heavy heart that I share with you that TOM KOWALSKI passed away this morning. TOM was a tremendous talent and his passion for all things LIONS and the NFL never faltered. He was a tremendous asset to us on WDFN AM. His presence will be greatly missed in afternoons not to mention in the hallways and around the building. Having him on our team made us a better sports talk station and for that I will always be thankful of his time with CCD."
"Please keep his fiancée, DIANE, and his family in your thoughts and prayers."
