NPR's planned coverage of the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks will include a week of reports starting SEPTEMBER 5th looking at the events leading to 9/11 and how the attacks continue to impact AMERICA. The network will offer nine hours of special live coverage on 9/11 8a-5p (ET), anchored by AUDIE CORNISH and NEAL CONAN and covering the events at GROUND ZERO, SHANKSVILLE, the PENTAGON and elsewhere.
In addition, "MORNING EDITION" host RENEE MONTAIGNE will be visiting AFGHANISTAN, filing reports all month; a special, "We Remember: StoryCorps Stories from 9/11," hosted by CORNISH, will feature stories from people talking about their losses and recovery; "Under Suspicion: An Investigation from NPR News and Center for Investigative Reporting" will look at the use of private counter-terrorism firms by malls, stadia and other venues; "Video Profile: In COLORADO, Outdoor Rehab for Injured Soldiers," a video by NPR's DAVID GILKEY, will be available online and on SEPTEMBER 8th on ROCKY MOUNTAIN PUBLIC TELEVISION; and a live webcast of a memorial concert from the METROPOLITAN MUSEUM OF ART's TEMPLE OF DENDUR will stream on SEPTEMBER 11th via NPR Music and Classical WQXR/NEW YORK’s Q2.
The ASSOCIATED PRESS' radio coverage of the 9/11 memorial includes pieces voiced and produced by AP correspondents WARREN LEVINSON, SANDY KOZEL, SAGAR MEGHANI and MARK SMITH within its daily newscasts and feeds. The more than 28 audio segments began running YESTERDAY (8/29) and look back at the stories that shaped the wire service's coverage of 9/11, including reports on first responders, victims’ families and current preparations for coping with attacks. AP RADIO will begin airing one minute live Special Reports on AP-1 at :20 and :40 past the hour on SEPTEMBER 11th, starting at 8:40a (ET) and anchored by KOZEL with LEVINSON, SMITH and MEGHANI reporting from the memorial events.
