ALL ACCESS tipped you last week (NET NEWS 9/2) that CLEAR CHANNEL AC WLZT (SOFT ROCK 93.3)/COLUMBUS, OH had gone into format stunting mode -- with a top-500 countdown.
This morning, the stunting gave way to a Classic Hits format, with the station branded as OLDIES 93.3, "Continuous Oldies For CENTRAL OHIO."
First hour songs included:
THE BEATLES - Twist And Shout
CHICAGO - Beginnings
THE MONKEES - I'm A Believer
ACE - How Long
THE FOUNDATIONS - Build Me Up Buttercup
JOHN TRAVOLTA & OLIVIA NEWTON-JOHN - You're The One That I Want"It was time for COLUMBUS to have a station that plays the music we all grew up with," said Dir./Programming JOHN CRENSHAW. "OLDIES 93.3 plays the best of the best from the 60s and 70s. OLDIES 93.3 was selected to better serve the 35 to 54 year old listeners after research and focus groups suggested that the COLUMBUS radio market was under-serving that key demographic. It is the newest format in CLEAR CHANNEL RADIO/COLUMBUS' local lineup and promises a music playlist with the best of the 60s and 70s. Playlists will include groups like THE BEATLES, ELTON JOHN, THE EAGLES, FLEETWOOD MAC, THE TEMPTATIONS and THE BEACH BOYS. OLDIES 93.3 is currently operating without on-air personalities, which will be added to the music-intensive presentation in the near future."
"We’re taking this station to our listeners on the Web as well," said CRENSHAW. "Using technology to reach our audience will be key to OLDIES 93.3’s success."
