A study from BALL STATE UNIVERSITY's CENTER FOR MEDIA DESIGN says that the average American spends more time with media devices like TVs, radios, iPods, and cell phones than doing any other activity while awake.
The "MIDDLETOWN MEDIA STUDIES 2" survey involved shadowing 400 people in MUNCIE, IN and INDIANAPOLIS and foind about 30% of the day was spent solely with media, 20.8% on work, and 39% with media combined with other activity. At least 30% of those studied were involved with media in any given hour, and most media time was spent with TV (240.9 minutes/day) and computers (120 minutes/day). Surprisingly, those 18-24 spent less time online than anyone but those over 65.
