Letter To FCC From 28 In Congress Voices Support For LPFMs

A letter from 28 members of Congress to FCC Chairman JULIUS GENACHOWSKI commenting in the FCC's low power FM/FM translator proceeding voices support for the Local Community Radio Act and for LPFM development in urban areas, but urges the Commission to "ensure that licenses are awarded to truly local churches, non-profit organizations, local governments, and schools. These groups are ready to use local programming to serve the public, connect their communities, and enrich cultural life."
The letter, which was sent the day after the deadline for comments in the docket had passed, was signed by Rep. MIKE DOYLE (D-PA) and 27 others, including presidential candidate Rep. RON PAUL (R-TX) and a list of mostly Democrats, including Reps. MAURICE HINCHEY (D-NY), LOUISE SLAUGHTER (D-NY), DORIS MATSUI (D-CA), BOB FILNER (D-CA), and STEVE COHEN (D-TN).
