With the closing of the sale of CITADEL BROADCASTING to CUMULUS MEDIA, a mystery has popped up in NASHVILLE, where veteran sports talker GEORGE PLASTER was off the air at now-CUMULUS Sports WGFX (104.5 THE ZONE)/NASHVILLE on FRIDAY (9/16), with his whereabouts not mentioned.
PLASTER declined comment when THE TENNESSEAN called him that evening, but told the paper earlier in the week, "There's been a lot of rumors about where we're going to end up. At this point no decision has been made. I want to do not only what's good for my group, but I want to end up doing something good for our listeners."
A rival to WGFX on the FM dial has appeared recently in the form of THE CROMWELL GROUP's WPRT (102.5 THE GAME), possibly providing a bidder for PLASTER's services. Meanwhile, CUMULUS is spinning off WRQQ and Top 40 WNFN (i106 HITS)/NASHVILLE to a trust, VOLT RADIO LLC, as part of the CITADEL deal.
