BLAKENEY COMMUNICATIONS Country WBBN/HATTIESBURG morning host BUDDY BARON of the B-95 BREAKFAST CLUB tells ALL ACCESS that they're helping a local guy out, and getting some great national coverage at the same time. BUDDY says that the 'hot story' around town is about local SHERIFF BILLY McGEE. Seems that the sheriff helped a lot of folks out after HURRICANE KATRINA by commandeering semi tractor trailers full of ice, water and supplies to nearby CAMP SELBY. Victims of the hurricane needed the ice badly to refrigerate medicine.
Now BARON says that SHERIFF BILLY's in trouble, "with the feds," and the station is raising money for his defense fund. A local songwriter has even written a parody of the events with a song called, "Haulin' Ice." Also, the morning show has been interviewed by ABC WORLD NEWS TONIGHT. Email BUDDY and maybe he'll zip you a file of the song- buddybaron@aol.com.
