The eighth annual ADVERTISING WEEK events are happening in NEW YORK CITY, with more than 30 panels on the opening day YESTERDAY (10/3). ADVERTISING WEEK continues through FRIDAY.
THE NEW YORK TIMES covered ZENITHOPTIMEDIA CEO TIM JONES, who told those in attendence that "the aftershocks keep on coming," when comparing ad spending this year compared with last year. "If we’re not in a recession, we may talk ourselves back into a recession."
"Another panelist, RUSS SAPIENZA, senior partner at PRICEWATERHOUSECOOPERS, offered another reason for the growth forecast," blogged THE TIMES. "From the advertisers' perspective, they don't want to take the money off the table right now," SAPIENZA said. "They want to sell products."
Bob PIttman Addresses The Conference
Newly minted CC HOLDINGS CEO ROBERT W. PITTMAN "devoted much of his talk to describe CLEAR CHANNEL's warm embrace of new media," noted THE TIMES. "We should take advantage of change," said PITTMAN. "We should be wherever we can with the products and services people expect. I’m an old-fashioned guy. I believe if you have a great relationship with the consumer, you’ll have an opportunity to make money from it."
PITTMAN touched upon the recent partnership CLEAR CHANNEL entered into with UNIVISION, adding their programming to iHEARTRADIO. "We put the UNIVISION stations -- which broadcast in Spanish -- on iHEARTRADIO. We don’t own them, but we’re thinking, 'How do you really serve the consumer?' Part of your challenge is to find those marketers that'll be your steadies. You go steady with them."
