APPALACHIAN STATE UNIVERSITY radio station WASU/BOONE, NC will be participating with over 280 other college radio stations across NORTH AMERICA in College Radio Day on TUESDAY, OCT 11th.. College Radio Day is the first-of-its-kind and the primary purpose is to raise awareness for college radio.
"College Radio Day is a time to reflect on the foundation of radio, WASU PD JOEL GILLIE said. "It is also a time to encourage fellow students to support their campus radio station and become involved as the future of the broadcast industry/
VALLIE RICHARDS DONOVAN CONSULTING Founder DAN VALLIE, a Practitioner in Residence at ASU and Director of the Kellar Radio Talent Institute, notes that "college radio is where many of today’s broadcast professionals got their start and even more importantly, is a training ground for the next generation of broadcasters, a training ground that is needed more than ever and that the broadcast industry will support. It’s exciting to see how APPALACHIAN STATE supports its college radio station in every way possible, including the new facilities currently being built on campus. The payoff is seen in the number of students that leave APP STATE and begin their careers, and working for CBS, CLEAR CHANNEL, BEASLEY BROADCAST GROUP, CNN, CURTIS MEDIA, ENTERCOM and others."
Professional support for College Radio Day now being aired hourly on WASU include PERFORMANCE RACING NETWORK Pres. DOUG RICE, WKZL/Greensboro-Winston Salem morning host JACK MURPHY, CBS RADIO/CHARLOTTE PD JOHN REYNOLDS, WQDR/RALLEIGH PD LISA MCKAY PD, WEND/CHARLOTTE PD JACK DIANEL and others.
