MERCURY NASHVILLE artist SCOTTY McCREERY debuted at the #1spot on the NEILSON SOUNDSCAN TOP 200 Album chart, with his album “Clear As Day,” selling 196,739 units for the week. He is the first new Country artist this year to debut at #1, and has the second-highest debut week sales for a new artist in all genres, behind rapper J. COLE.
McCREERY said, “My hopes were just to go out there and have fun and let people know that the album was out there. Everybody hopes for the number one, but you never really expect it. To see it up there is pretty incredible. It’s a very good birthday present! I can’t think of anything to top it!”
UNIVERSAL MUSIC GROUP NASHVILLE Chairman/CEO LUKE LEWIS said, “We are proud to be part of this project. It couldn’t have happened to a nicer young man.”

NAB's Jim Donio Talks McCreery, Overall Sales
NARM Pres. JIM DONIO talked about McCREERY and the continued sales rebound:
"It’s another notable week in music sales, with 'American Idol' season 10 winner SCOTTY MCCREERY becoming both the youngest man ever to top the charts with his debut release, 'Clear as Day,' at 18, and the first Country act to debut at #1 with his first studio album. 'Idol' has had such a tremendous impact on the music business since it came on the air in 2002, which is why we honored it with a special Outstanding Achievement Award celebrating its 10th Season at the NARM Music Business Convention earlier this year.
"The overall year-over-year comparisons continue to be strong. According to NIELSEN SOUNDSCAN, year-to-date album, TEAs and track sales remain up by 3+%, 5+% and 10+%,respectively. It’s also the 20th straight week where year-to-date albums are up over their 2010 numbers, with digital albums actually jumping about 20%."ALL ACCESS' Power Player interview with JIM DONIO can be found here.
