ALEX NOGALES, the NATIONAL HISPANIC MEDIA COALITION activist demanding that CLEAR CHANNEL Talk KFI-A/LOS ANGELES fire their highly-rated JOHN AND KEN afternoon show because of their opposition to illegal immigration, held a protest outside the station's BURBANK headquarters THURSDAY.
MEDIABISTRO.COM's FISHBOWL LA reports that NOGALES is claiming that he has successfully convinced VERIZON FiOS, AT&T WIRELESS and the VONS and RALPHS supermarket chains to pull their advertising from the show, although not from the station. NOGALES launched his boycott after the hosts gave out immigrant rights activist JORGE-MARIO CABRERA's cell phone number on the air; CABRERA had included the number as his contact information in a press release.
CLEAR CHANNEL is not dealing with NOGALES because of his demand that the hosts be fired, and JOHN KOBYLT and KEN CHIAMPOU have questioned on the air whether NOGALES has an actual following. The company is instead discussing matters with other Latino groups in the region.
