As tipped by the move of PREMIERE NETWORKS' JIM ROME from sister Sports WMFS-A-F (ESPN 92.9/680 AM) (NET NEWS 10/12), ENTERCOM is flipping Classic Country WMC-A/MEMPHIS to Sports on OCTOBER 17th. The new SPORTS 790AM will carry ROME's show as well as the entire FOX SPORTS RADIO lineup, plus select ST. LOUIS CARDINALS games and high school football.
VP/Market Manager DAN BARRON said, "SPORTS 790AM will provide another platform for Mid-Southerners who are highly engaged sports consumers and will be a compliment to our other brands; especially 92.9FM ESPN/680AM. We love sports and have discovered Mid-Southerners do too. 92.9FM ESPN/680AM has matured into a popular station featuring a mix of local and national shows as well as play-by-play. We found that we had more content than we had space and we have an appetite for even more.
"Just as ESPN did when they launched the 'deuce' (ESPN2), we launch SPORTS 790am. The majority of our programming will feature the FOX SPORTS RADIO lineup. Popular national personalities such as JIM ROME and others who are not directly affiliated with FSR will be showcased and we will be able to provide more play-by-play coverage for teams of regional and local interest. This move allows us to expand our current sports footprint and gives us room to grow further."
