CBS television's first digital multicast channel plans to use content from co-owned radio stations in its all-news mix. The new subchannel of WCBS-TV (CBS 2)/NEW YORK, "CBS NEW YORK PLUS," will incorporate the news product of News WCBS-A and WINS-A and Sports WFAN-A as well as that from CBS 2, CBS TV STATIONS President and WCBS-TV GM PETER DUNN told the NEW YORK DAILY NEWS.
CBS owned-and-operated stations have to date not broadcast any digital subchannels with their primary signal, unlike its network competition (NBC has launched "NONSTOP" channels and airs UNIVERSAL SPORTS on third channels in its O&O markets.
ABC has used the digital channels for its "LIVE WELL" network, and FOX retransmits sister MY NETWORK TV stations on its O&O multicast channels and vice versa). The new NEW YORK offering by CBS will air a news wheel with hourly updates. It is scheduled to launch before the end of the year.
