Condolences to family and friends of longtime BIRMINGHAM radio broadcaster BEN MCKINNON, who died SATURDAY night, according to the ALABAMA BROADCASTERS ASSOCIATION.
MCKINNON, who served in the Navy during World War II, began in the newspaper business before becoming a salesman and local sales manager at WBT–A/CHARLOTTE, moving to WSGN–A/BIRMINGHAM as General Manager in 1955. He served as VP/GM of WSGN until 1979, then served as President of the station through 1982. He subsequently became executive director of the ALABAMA BROADCASTERS ASSOCIATION, heading the organization for 18 years through 2000.
A "Celebration of Life" service will be held on Wednesday (10/26) at MOUNTAIN BROOK PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH in MOUNTAIN BROOK, AL.
