Former CBS RADIO Top 40/Rhythmic WPGC/WASHINGTON, D.C. host DJ RANE has filed a pair of lawsuits against the station concerning her departure from the airwaves three months ago, the WASHINGTON POST reports. On top of a MAY, 2011 gender-discrimination suit lawsuit, where RANE (real name: RANELLE SYKES) alleged that her on-air partner, KEITH "DJ FLEXX" CLAGON, earned twice as much as she did, she filed a new suit last week claiming she was fired after filing a second internal complaint in JULY, which constitutes illegal retaliation.
A CBS RADIO rep denied both allegations, including the salary disparity, told the paper that SYKES’s departure "was handled in the same manner as any other employee who elects to leave the company and whose resignation was accepted by the company effective immediately."
SYKES admitted that she submitted her two-week notice along with the complaint, but her lawyer, JIMMY A. BELL, claims the station acted improperly in "retroactively" ending her employment by not allowing her to come back to work for those final two weeks or say goodbye to listeners, and by cutting off medical benefits as of her last day, though she’d paid her share through the end of the month.
