Condolences to family and friends of longtime LUBBOCK, TX radio personality LEW DEE, who died MONDAY after a battle with cancer at 79, according to the LUBBOCK AVALANCHE-JOURNAL.
Most recently morning co-host at RAMAR COMMUNICATIONS AC KLZK (STARS 104.3, later at 97.3)/LUBBOCK, TX, DEE (born LEWIS THOMAS D'ELIA in BROOKLYN) landed in LUBBOCK while in the AIR FORCE in the 1950s at REESE AFB. Then, after returning to NEW YORK, came back to LUBBOCK to start in radio as a salesman at KUKO-A-KUCO-A in 1960.
He then went on the air at KZZN, followed by a stint at then-new KSEL-TV, hosting a SATURDAY night horror movie series and serving as VP/Sales Manager at the TV station and KSEL-A, where he also hosted. He moved to KEND-A in 1972-88 and KKIK in 1988-90 before he and his wife and KEND morning show co-host DIANA DEE took over management and mornings at KKCL (98 KOOL). They launched STARS 104.3 for RAMAR in 2002 and hosted mornings through 2008, then served as sales consultants for the RAMAR stations.
