Longtime Oklahoma Sooners Voice Bob Barry Dies At 80

BOB BARRY, the longtime voice of OKLAHOMA UNIVERSITY football and men's basketball until his retirement this year, died late SATURDAY at his home in NORMAN, OK at 80. BARRY, a legend for his long run as the voice of the SOONERS, served as the school's play-by-play announcer in 1961-72 and again from 1991 through this SPRING; he also called OKALAHOMA STATE sports in 1973-90.
BARRY started his career at KNOR-A/NORMAN and was picked by SOONERS football coach BUD WILKINSON to be the new play-by-play voice of the team in 1961. He also served as Sports Director at NBC affiliate KFOR-TV/OKLAHOMA CITY, at which his son BOB BARRY JR. now serves in the same position.
