ASTRAL MEDIA Hot AC CJFM (VIRGIN RADIO 96)/MONTREAL's annual "SHAVE TO SAVE" has raised $200,000 to benefit QUEBEC BREAST CANCER FOUNDATION. Since it's launch in 2000, the promotion has raised $4 million by soliciting donations from listeners who request VIRGIN RADIO personalities to come out to their offices and schools to shave participant's heads to show support for the cause.
VIRGIN RADIO Promotions Director MELISSA DIMAKOS commented, "Not only has VIRGIN RADIO's 'SHAVE TO SAVE' raised a lot of money for breast cancer research, but it’s become a huge viral campaign as well. Everyone who shaves their head is a walking awareness campaign. It’s extremely powerful seeing women and children doing it, especially young female adolescents."
Business Development Director NATHALIE BOUDREAU of the QUEBEC BREAST CANCER FOUNDATION added, "The QUEBEC BREAST CANCER FOUNDATION is proud to be supported so beautifully by the team at VIRGIN RADIO 96 and all their generous listeners. We are particularly pleased that after 11 years, the craze is still going strong this season, a must for OCTOBER. These thousands of shaved heads have allowed VIRGIN RADIO to deliver about $4 million to the foundation; quite a feat! Thanks to the commitment of its partners the foundation has contributed more than $20 million in various research projects since its establishment in QUEBEC."
Proceeds from the event will fund cancer research projects, awareness, educational and support programs.
