Word Entertainment Celebrates 60th Anniversary In Its Hometown Of Waco

WORD ENTERTAINMENT has been celebrating its 60th anniversary of making Christian music this year. On WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 2nd, WORD executives and staff threw an anniversary celebration in WACO, TX, home of the label's origin. The label was founded by BAYLOR UNIVERSITY graduate JARRELL McCRACKEN in 1951.
On hand for the celebration were members of the McCRACKEN family, WACO Mayor JIM BUSH, Chairman of WORD ENTERTAINMENT MIKE CURB, WARNER MUSIC NASHVILLE Pres./CEO JOHN ESPOSITO, WORD's first A&R Director and artist KURT KAISER, WORD ENTERTAINMENT Pres./CEO ROD RILEY and BAYLOR UNIVERSITY Pres. KEN STARR. Also attending the event were many WORD employees, past and present.
A special commemorative plaque was presented to the McCRACKEN family and BAYLOR UNIVERSITY on behalf of WORD ENTERTAINMENT. Mayor BUSH also presented a proclamation naming NOVEMBER 2nd as "WORD DAY" in WACO, TX. The night concluded with an outdoor concert featuring WORD ENTERTAINMENT artists CHRIS AUGUST and SIDEWALK PROPHETS on the BAYLOR campus.
In honor of the label's anniversary, WORD ENTERTAINMENT recently released a 3-CD compilation entitled "WORD: SIX DECADES OF HITS," featuring a 51-song collection with a bonus excerpt from the company's original recording.
