ALASKA INTEGRATED MEDIA Alternative KZND (94.7 THE END)/ANCHORAGE, AK is launching a holiday gift drive for foster youth called "PUMP UP THE KIDS." KZND PD/PM driver FATGUY is working with foster care advocates to get the word out. Last year FATGUY started a program that gave teenagers 13-18 the chance to tell him what they wanted for the holidays.
The STATE OF ALASKA has given all 144 teenagers a form to fill out asking them what they want for Christmas. Then will then come back to KZND and afternoon team BROCK & THE FATGUY will then ask the community to "adopt" these kids and get them what they asked for on their list.
"Growing up in the system, I think we all know that the holidays are tough," said FATGUY, a former foster youth. "I can’t remember a single time of being asked what I wanted for CHRISTMAS or my birthday. That’s what we want to fix."
FATGUY added, "On DECEMBER 3rd we are doing a pub crawl with 12 bars in downtown ANCHORAGE and will have items for auctions at each bar and all the money goes to help us buy the last minute gifts for the kids that are placed in foster care around the cut off date (a lot of kids get placed during the holidays).
KZND is seeking donations from labels for the giftbags and autographed swag for the auction: 4700 Business Park Blvd Building E/Suite 44-A, ANCHORAGE, AK 99503.
