CBS Top 40 Rhythmic WPGC/WASHINGTON has finally resolved a legal dispute with former night air -personality RANELLE SYKES. The suit, filed in MAY, requested $100,000 in compensatory damages and another $100,000 in punitive damages. The suit claimed discrimination and alleged that SYKES was paid less than her male co-host , KEITH “DJ FLEXX” CLAGON. SYKES and CLAGON did nights and were known as “The Home Team.”
In her resignation letter published by THE AFRO, SYKES said, “I refuse to be treated like a female sidekick, intern, part-timer or on-air assistant when I am doing all the work for practically half the pay.” SYKES, who is 32, has a bachelor’s and a law degree coupled with 14 years on-air experience. Neither side would comment of the terms of the settlement.
SYKES is the second high-profile air personality to exit WPGC. The first was long-time morning host DONNIE SIMPSON, who left two years ago.
