CLEAR CHANNEL Urban WUSL (POWER 99)/PHILADELPHIA has terminated former morning co-host TARSHA “JONESY” JONES. This action followed two separate law suits which were filed against JONES and CLEAR CHANNEL RADIO. In a defamation law suit filed in Common Pleas Court TRACEY PARSON, who owns and operates four KIDDIE KARE daycare centers in the PHILADELPHIA area, claims that as a result of remarks made by JONES on-air, four families took their children out of the daycare centers she owns.
According to PHILLY.COM, the complaint alleges when some young girls from NORTH PHILADELPHIA got into an altercation with some girls from SOUTH PHILADELPHIA, PARSON, who was attending a business meeting in nearby BENSALEM, learned during the meeting that her own daughter had been involved. The mother of a SOUTH PHILLY girl allegedly was in the process of picking up the girls from her neighborhood, when she ran into one of the NORTH PHILLY girls and confronted her.
Later that week JONES discussed the incident on WUSL, invited listeners to call in and claimed that the mother involved was a business owner of a local daycare center. A caller told JONES the mother’s name was TRACEY who owned KIDDIE KARE daycare centers. Later JONES rebuffed a caller who claimed she had her facts wrong. As a result, PARSON claimed this series of incidents caused her to receive death threats, broken windows and a tarnished reputation, so she filed suit. The suit names JONES, CLEAR CHANNEL COMMUNICATIONS and CAPSTAR RADIO as defendants.
