The FCC's first quarter 2006 report on consumer inquiries and complaints showed a jump in broadcasting complaints from fourth quarter's 44,287 to 141,868, although the increase reflected a huge number in FEBRUARY- 138.527- bookended by small numbers in JANUARY (1,798) and MARCH (1,627). Indecency complaints made up the lion's share of overall complaints, with 7,739 in JANUARY, a jump to 138,527 in FEBRUARY, then down to 1,602 in MARCH.
The commission does not disclose how many complaints come from different individuals, or how many are computer-generated form letters from interested groups like the PARENTS TELEVISION COUNCIL.
