FCC nominees JESSICA ROSENWORCEL and AJIT VRADARAJ PAI appeared before the Senate Commerce Committee hearing to answer questions and hear Senators' comments on communications regulation WEDNESDAY (11/30), while Sen. CHUCK GRASSLEY (R-IA) reiterated his intention to block the nominees' approval until the FCC releases documents from the LIGHTSQUARED proceeding. The Senators, GRASSLEY aside, indicated general support for both nominees, and the candidates avoided making commitments on positions on most issues, including net neutrality and the AT&T-T-MOBILE merger.
Committee Chairman JAY ROCKEFELLER (D-WV), who has voiced support of the nominations, pressed ROSENWORCEL and PAI on their positions on "cleaning up" the media with content regulation, while the nominees told Sen. ROY BLUNT (R-MO) that they do not support a reimposition of the Fairness Doctrine and Sen. JIM DEMINT (R-SC) got them to agree that the Cable Act should be reviewed.
