TRIBUNE Talk WGN-A/CHICAGO midday host JOHN WILLIAMS' "Peanut Butter and Jolly" charity drive collected 4,500 jars of peanut butter in a single day on DECEMBER 1st. The drive was inspired by WILLIAMS hearing that food banks and pantries across the nation are experiencing a peanut butter shortage due to the rising price of peanuts, and that peanut butter is one of the most often-requested items from pantries due to its protein content, its "kid-friendly" status, and its long shelf life. The jars were deiivered to the GREATER CHICAGO FOOD DEPOSITORY after an appearance in the WGN studio on DECEMBER 2nd.
"I'm sitting in an igloo of peanut butter jars thanks to all of you who made donations," said WILLIAMS. "Merry 'Chrithmath' to all!"
