The HOLLYWOOD REPORTER and the WALL STREET JOURNAL are reporting that RYAN SEACREST has had talks with NBC that have included broaching the possibility that the "AMERICAN IDOL" host and CLEAR CHANNEL Top 40 KIIS/LOS ANGELES syndicated morning host might join "THE TODAY SHOW" as MATT LAUER's successor. SEACREST is already part of the NBCUNIVERSAL organization because of his work at E! ENTERTAINMENT TELEVISION, now part of the combined COMCAST-NBCU empire.
The JOURNAL reported that NBC NEWS President STEVE CAPUS, "TODAY" Exec. Producer JIM BELL, and SVP for Marketing and Communications LAUREN KAPP met with SEACREST on TUESDAY night for "preliminary" talks about the morning job. The REPORTER says that the talks "did take place, but... (were) part of continued discussions" with SEACREST about his role with the company. SEACREST's E! contract is up for renewal early next year.
