1. Why did you decide to add a radio show to your resume? Why radio?
I used to appear as a guest on many radio programs throughout the second half of the 1990's, usually as the whipping boy. I was the naysayer warning against the dotcom bubble and was skeptical of companies like Enron and WorldCom. I really enjoyed arguing my points, and after the subsequent collapse I was offered the opportunity to start my own show. I was told by many that a financial show that did not have the "BUY SELL HOLD" format would never survive, an investor advocate show would never fly, and that financial programs must be guest oriented; I set out to prove everyone wrong. Radio is the only format where the format can be broken. If I feel it prudent to spend the entire program articulating one point I can do that; with other mediums, that is not possible. Radio is the only place where one can be an educator and entertainer simultaneously.
2. About what are you most passionate these days?
Freedom, values and education. I understand that my story would not be possible anywhere else in the world, and the freedom that has been provided to us makes this possible. Many of the problems facing this country today is because our educational system has done a horrendous job teaching history and economics. Being able to put things into proper perspective is something that many people are lacking. Understanding how our economy works, and knowledge of all things money should carry a higher level of importance than "diversity" training in our nation's schools.
3. What lesson should the average individual take from the turmoil in the economy over the last few weeks? What should an individual investor do, if anything, based on the upheaval in the market?
That markets can and will do bizarre, and often inexplicable things. Make sure they have a competent financial advisor and financial plan that is focused on reaching ones goals, not riding the latest fad or trend.
4. What's the biggest mistake individual investors make ?
Taking short-cuts, believing that they can defy economic reality and make money "easy and quick."
5. Do you think the economy's troubles will change the way financial advisers, investment firms, and individuals do business?
I always hope for the best, but by using history as a guide, I will probably be disappointed. Get-Rich-Quick con artists are the world's second oldest profession.
6. What sets you apart from other financial commentators on the radio?
I don't host a Buy, Sell or Hold show. Those programs are toxic! How ridiculous.... How can someone make a proper assessment if an equity is prudent for a caller in a sixty second phone call? Would it be prudent for a neurosurgeon to advise brain surgery after a sixty second phone call? I am the only investor advocate program anywhere, actually taking on Wall Street, head on.
7. Of what are you most proud?
My family.
8. Who are your influences, inspirations, and/or mentors?
Rush Limbaugh, Neal Boortz, historians Paul Johnson and Victor Davis Hanson and Jesus Christ, St. Paul, and my father.
9. Fill-in the blank: I can't make it through the day without ________________.
...hearing my children laugh, kissing my wife and going to the gym, and, of course, SHOW PREP!!
10. What's the best advice you've ever gotten? The worst?
Best: Everything in life that has meaning, value and worth, involves work, time and effort... and the Golden rule.
Worst: Take this shortcut...
