KANSAS CITY: "WOLF" HOWLS; KPRS, KQRC SHARE TOP SPOTS
ENTERCOM's Country stations branded as "THE WOLF" are eating up the competition. Besides the solid start that KBWF/SAN FRANCISCO has received, the company saw huge success with the brand as they were the top Country station 18-34, 18-49, and 25-54 in both PORTLAND and SEATTLE. Now in this book, WDAF/KANSAS CITY becomes the new Country champ 25-54. Meanwhile, CARTER Urban KPRS and ENTERCOM Active Rock KQRC shared demo crowns. Here's a look inside KC:
18-34: KPRS replaced KQRC as the 18-34 champ, gaining nearly a full share to put them over a 12 in demo.18-34: KPRS replaced KQRC as the 18-34 champ, gaining nearly a full share to put them over a 12 in demo. KQRC was still a solid second, despite a 2.6-share drop. In third place (and flat) was WILKS Adult-leaning Top 40 KMXV. CUMULUS Rhythmic KCHZ (+0.8) saw a decent gain, but they have barely half of the shares KPRS has in demo. KCHZ was tied with sister Adult Hits KCJK (JACK-FM), which gained 1.6 shares. Wilks Country KBEQ (-0.6) held in the sixth spot. It did appear to be an off book for Rock, as ENTERCOM Alternative KRBZ plummeted from fourth to seventh (losing 1.5 shares). The station only has about 40% of the shares of KQRC. Wilks' other Country outlet, KFKF (+0.5), moves from ninth to eighth. Meanwhile, the aforementioned WDAF jumped 1.7 shares to grab ninth 18-34. ENTERCOM AC KUDL (+0.5) was 10th.
18-49: There's a new 18-49 champ and it's KPRS, which grows 0.4 shares to take the top position. KPRS moves a half-share ahead of KQRC, which drops 2.6 shares to fall into second place. KMXV (-0.2) holds on to third. KCJK moves up from fifth to fourth (+0.7), while KBEQ slides a tenth, but still holds the #5 spot. Surging from 14th to 6th is WDAF (+1.8), which posts a 60% increase from the Winter. KFKF (+0.8) ranks seventh. UNION Sports WHB (+0.5) moves into the eighth position, although the Royals will be leaving WHB after this year. KCHZ (-0.5) slides from sixth to ninth, while CUMULUS Urban AC KMJK (-0.2) rounds out the top 10.
25-54: KQRC dropped 1.7 shares, but held on to the top spot 25-54. KPRS inched up a tenth to remain in second. But the big move goes to WDAF, which surged two full shares to grab the No. 3 position - and the leadership in Country. WDAF vaulted from the #13 spot in the Winter. It places them 0.4 ahead of Country rival KBEQ and Adult Hits KCJK (both flat). Moving into sixth place was KFKF (+0.6). Overall, it appeared to be a good Country book and a not-so-good Rock book. In addition to KFKF, three other stations tied for the #6 spot 25-54: KMJK (-0.2), KUDL (+0.6), and WHB (-0.1). Rounding out the top 10 was ENTERCOM News/Talk KMBZ (+0.2).
SALT LAKE CITY: "OH MY" CC'S KJMY, KZHT, KNRS POST HUGE GAINS
18-34: CLEAR CHANNEL Top 40 KZHT surged 2.4 shares to gain the top spot 18-34 in Salt Lake City in the Spring. The gain put them 0.7 ahead of MILLCREEK Rhythmic (+1.3). In third place was SIMMONS Alternative KXRK (+1.1), which grabbed a nice increase. CITADEL Country KUBL (-0.7) slipped from #1 to #4 18-34. CLEAR CHANNEL Hot AC KJMY took a more current-based direction over the last several months, and it seems to have paid off with a nice 1.5 share gain and a move over a 6 share and into the top five. BUSTOS Regional Mexican KDUT (+1.4) climbs into the sixth slot. BONNEVILLE Classic Hits KRSP (+2.2) doubled this book and surged all the way to seventh. Tied for eighth are CITADEL Rock KBER (-0.8) and MILLCREEK Active Rock KHTB (-1.8). Tied for 10th are CITADEL Triple A KENZ (-0.6) and BONNEVILLE News/Talk KSL (+0.2).
18-49: KUBL slides 0.1, but retains the top position here by two-tenths over a growing KRSP (+0.8). The largest move 18-49 goes to CLEAR CHANNEL News/Talk KNRS (+2.4), which sees an 89% increase over Winter and moves from 15th. KNRS is tied with sister KZHT, which moves from 11th into a tie for third (+1.6). In fifth place was KXRK (+0.7), putting it ahead of KJMY (+1.1) and KSL (-0.8), which tied for sixth. KJMY was 10th last book, while KSL slides from #2. KBER (+0.1) ranks eighth, with BONNEVILLE AC KSFI (-0.9) in ninth. Finishing out the top 10 was KUUU (+0.7).
25-54: KSL holds on to the top spot 25-54, but it was VERY close. KSL lost 1.6 shares and now only holds a .1 (one-tenth) edge over rival KNRS (+2.6), which vaults from eighth to second. In third place is KUBL (+0.2). KRSP (-0.8) slides from second to fourth, while KSFI (who tied KRSP for second in the Winter), drops 1.5 shares and is now fifth. Tied with KSFI is KBER (+0.9). Surging 1.3 shares and moving into the #7 spot is CLEAR CHANNEL Classic Hits KODJ (+1.3), which is tied with KDUT (+0.1). KJMY (+0.5) is ninth, while KXRK (+1.2) is 10th.
LAS VEGAS: KISF HITS THE JACKPOT; CAROLLA SURGES
Like they did in Los Angeles, Dallas, and Phoenix, UNIVISION has not only the top Spanish language station, but the highest-rated station in all three key target demos. Regional Mexican KISF was #1 in the Spring among adults 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54 - led by morning star EDDIE "PIOLIN" SOTELO. Meanwhile, CBS has to be happy, as ADAM CAROLLA scored solid gains across the board in morning drive for Alternative KXTE - despite an off book for Rock in Sin City.
18-34: KISF won going away here. The station gained 1.1 shares to eclipse the 12-share plateau. KISF held almost a five-share lead over the # 2 station, KEMP Rhythmic KVEG, which slid 26% this book. In third place was CBS Rhythmic rival KLUC (-0.8). However, KLUC is now just a half-share behind KVEG. CBS Hot AC KMXB (-2.6) also lost ground and slips from third to fourth. ENTRAVISION Regional Mexican KQRT (flat) moves from seventh to fifth. LOTUS Active Rocker KOMP (-1.3) is tied with CLEAR CHANNEL Spanish Adult Hits KWID (La Preciosa), which was off 0.7, for sixth. KXTE dropped from fifth to eighth, losing 1.4 shares, but CAROLLA was up 0.6 to rank fifth. In 10th place (and moving up 2.1 shares) is UNIVISON Spanish Adult Hits KRGT (Recuerdo).
18-49: KISF cashed in here as well, holding flat north of an eight share and posting a 46% lead over their next closest rival. Sliding 1.5 shares but ranking #2 was KMXB. Down 0.2 and ranking third was KLUC. In fourth place was KOMP (+0.1), the clear Vegas Rock leader. KVEG drops from third to fifth (-1.9). KWID (+0.4) moves up from 10th to sixth. Sliding into seventh place was CLEAR CHANNEL AC KSNE (-0.4). Tied for eighth are CLEAR CHANNEL Country KWNR (-1.0) and KXTE. Rounding out the top 10 is KRGT (-0.8).
25-54: KISF was off slightly here (-0.6), but remains at No. 1. Also sliding 0.6 was KMXB, which remains in second. KSNE is off a tenth but remains third. Although KOMP was flat, it moved up from sixth to fourth . KWID moves into the top five with a 0.6 climb, up from 10th in the Winter. RIVIERA Smooth Jazz KOAS (-0.2) was sixth. BEASLEY, which flipped KKLZ from Classic Rock to fill the Classic Hits hole, surged 0.7 to tie for seventh. KKLZ is now equal to KLUC (-0.3) and KWNR, the latter which drops from fourth. Finishing 10th was LOTUS Classic Rock KXPT (+0.4).
Other notes: After a couple of off-books, CBS Adult Hits KKJJ gained a full share 25-54 and now ranks 11th. ADAM CAROLLA is up for a third straight book 25-54 in am drive, ranking sixth, even though the station ranks 15th.
INDIANAPOLIS: WHHH, WFMS, WFBQ SHARE DEMO LEADERSHIP
18-34: RADIO ONE Urban WHHH remained a dominant No. 1 in the 18-34 cell, growing 2.3 shares this book and moving over the 13-share mark. This gave WHHH nearly a four share lead over EMMIS Top 40 WNOU, although the station did grow two shares and move from fourth to second. Tied for third were CLEAR CHANNEL Alternative WRZX (+0.9), sister Classic Rock WFBQ (+0.4) and CUMULUS Country WFMS (+2.0). ENTERCOM Hot AC WZPL was off 1.5 shares, but only slips from fifth to sixth. RADIO ONE Urban AC WTLC-FM (-0.3) was seventh. CUMULUS Classic Rock WJJK (+0.5) was eighth. CONTINENTAL Regional Mexican WEDJ (-3.7) was ninth, tying them with EMMIS Country WLHK (-0.9), ENTERCOM Classic Hits WNTR (-0.9), and DAVIDSON Regional Mexican WNTS (+1.1).
18-49: A changing of the guard here as WFMS (+0.7) moves ahead of WFBQ, which slides 1.6 shares. A huge 18-49 book for WHHH (+2.0), which only missed beating 'FBQ by a tenth for second. Climbing from sixth to fourth was WNOU (+1.5). Moving nicely from 10th to fifth is WZPL (+1.4). WRZX (+0.1) claimed sixth place. WJJK gained a half-share, but remains in seventh place. WTLC-FM (+0.3) moves into eighth place. EMMIS AC WYXB gains a tenth to move from #11 to #9, while WLHK (-0.6) rounds out the top 10.
25-54: WFBQ barely holds on, but claims the 25-54 crown again despite dropping 1.3 shares and exiting double digits. A strong second was WFMS - also off 0.7. A distant third was WHHH (+1.3). WJJK makes its move in this demo, as it's up almost a full share 25-54 Surging from ninth to fourth ties it with WZPL (+1.7), which vaults from #11. Sliding from third to sixth is WYXB (-0.3). WTLC-FM (-0.1) moves from fifth to seventh. WRZX (+0.3) is up to eighth. Sliding from fifth to ninth (-0.7) is INDY RADIO Classic Rock WKLU. Tied for 10th: WLHK (-0.7) and WNTR (-1.2).
