Atlanta: V103 Wins In Rout; 99X Struggles
One of America's most consistently dominating stations is CBS Urban WVEE (V103)/ATLANTA. The station was No. 1 12+, but also was the markets top station among adults 18-34, 18-49, and 25-54. And the race wasn't close. Here's a look:
18-34: WVEE rose 0.2 to move just shy of a 14 share. They owned a 6.7 share lead over format competitor RADIO ONE's WHTA (-1.2), who still ranks a solid second. COX Rhythmic WBTS moves from fourth to third (+0.2). CLEAR CHANNEL Regional Mexican WBZY (-1.9) slid from third to fourth. Doubling their shares to move into the five share range was CITADEL Country WKHX, who rebounded from an off book to capture the No. 5 slot. Tied for sixth were COX Urban AC WALR (+1.6) and CLEAR CHANNEL Active Rock WKLS (+0.3). CLEAR CHANNEL Spanish Contemporary WWVA (+0.4) ranked eighth. Sliding from fifth to ninth was CUMULUS Top 40 WWWQ (-1.2), although that was still good enough to top format rival LINCOLN FINANCIAL Top 40 WSTR (+0.7), which finished tenth (tied with RADIO ONE Gospel WPZE).
Legendary Alternative WNNX (99X) is ailing. The one time powerhouse ranked 14th 18-34, 20th 18-49, and 21st 25-54.
18-49: WVEE was off just a tenth, and still dominates the cell by more than a 2-1 margin over it's next competitor. However, COX scored five of the top eight stations. WVEE scored over an 11 share 18-49 this book. In second place this book was WALR (+0.6), who moves up from a tie for third in the winter. COX Talk WSB-AM (-0.9) slips from second to third. A huge move, surging from No. 15 in the winter to No. 4 in the spring, belonged to WKHX (up 1.7 shares). WHTA was off 0.4 moving from third to fifth. COX AC WSB-FM (+0.1) is now sixth. WBTS (+0.5) cracked a four share and now ranks seventh, while WSRV (-0.8) moves from fifth to eighth. WPZE (+0.4) and WAMJ (+0.2) tied for ninth.
25-54: WVEE was flat, just short of a ten share and remains a stellar No. 1 by 2.5 shares over WALR (+1.3), who moves from third to second, flipping places with WSB-AM (-0.8). WSB-FM now ranks fourth (+0.1), but sharply from the fall, which was prior to the change of CLEAR CHANNEL's WLTM to Country WUBL. Speaking of Country, WKHX soars here as well, leaping two shares and now ranking fifth (up from No. 14 in the winter). WSRV was off 0.7, and moves down from fourth to sixth. WAMJ (-0.3) is now seventh, but has seen huge gains in mornings with STEVE HARVEY, who is up 308% to a year ago (Harvey is fourth 25-54 in mornings). WPZE (-0.1) was eighth. WSTR inched up 0.1 and now ranks ninth, while SALEM Christian AC WFSH (-0.2) rounds out the top ten.
99X STRUGGLES: Legendary Alternative WNNX (99X) is ailing. The one time powerhouse ranked 14th 18-34, 20th 18-49, and 21st 25-54. 99X was well below a three share 18-34, and under a two share 18-49 and 25-54. The station is behind CLEAR CHANNEL's WKLS, although even 'KLS was off this book in what did appear to be a bad rock book in ATLANTA.
Miami: Y100, WFLC Score Gains; WAMR On Top 18-49, 25-54
A number of stations posted solid gains in the spring, with CLEAR CHANNEL Top 40 WHYI (Y100) and COX AC WFLC (COAST 97.3) posting significant growth. Meanwhile, SBS Spanish Contemporary WAMR was No. 1 18-49 and 25-54.
18-34: BEASLEY Top 40/Rhythmic WPOW was the winner again despite a 1.2 share slide. COX Urban WEDR holds the No. 2 post after being flat. Moving from fifth to third is WHYI, who also grew 2.7 shares (47%) over its winter book. Also posting a sharp 1.8 share gain is WFLC (+1.8), who moves from eighth to fourth. UNIVISION WAMR (-0.5) slides from third to fifth. CLEAR CHANNEL Urban AC WMIB (-1.3) moves a tie for third to sixth, while COX rival WHQT is off (-0.4) but holds at No. 7. CLEAR CHANNEL Spanish Contemporary WMGE (-0.2) ranks eighth, while COX Active Rock WHDR (-0.5) and LINCOLN FINANCIAL AC WLYF (-1.1) tie for ninth.
18-49: WAMR is on top in this demo despite a slight 0.2 drop. In second place was WPOW (-0.1), just three tenths behind WAMR. Vaulting from sixth to third was WFLC (+0.9), just a tenth behind WPOW. WEDR was off a tenth to slide from third to fourth. Making a major move from No. 11 to No. 5 was WHYI (+1.4). Moving down a tenth to sixth place was WLYF. WHQT declines 0.6 and moves from fourth to seventh. WHQT's lead over rival WMIB (-0.5) is down to 0.7 shares. In ninth place is SBS Spanish Oldies WCMQ (-0.2). CLEAR CHANNEL Classic Rocker WBGG (-1.1) rounded out the top ten.
25-54: WAMR was off 0.8, but retained its leadership position. Tied for second were WHQT (-0.5) and WLYF (+0.3). Tied for fourth (only three tenths out of second place) were WCMQ (-0.1) and the rising WFLC (+0.6). A major move in this demo for WHYI, who moves up a share and surges from 13th to 6th. WEDR (flat) and WLVE (-0.6) tie for seventh. Meanwhile, WBGG (-0.9) slides from fifth into a tie for ninth with WPOW (-0.6), who moves down from eighth.
Other notes: While WCMQ continues to perform well, SBS Tropical WXDJ has fallen since the loss of their morning show hosted by ENRIQUE SANTOS and JOE FERRERO. In addition, sister Spanish Contemporary WRMA has been off. The two are tied for 16th place 18-49 and 15th place 25-54.
Phoenix: Univision'S KHOT Wins Running Away
You can now make that three markets where UNIVISION's leading Regional Mexican station is a dominant force in all key demos. The company's KHOT, with EDDIE "PIOLIN" SOTELO in morning was the dominant force in the PHOENIX spring book, picking up wins 18-34, 18-49, and 25-54.
18-34: KHOT was off slightly (-0.7) but it retained its top spot. Scoring a solid two-share jump to move back to No. 2 was RIVIERA Rhythmic KKFR (POWER 98.3), which knocked CLEAR CHANNEL Top 40 KZZP down to the No. 3 spot after a slide of 2.6 shares. Moving into fourth was sister KMXP (+2.1), who grew 58% this book. Sliding from third to fifth place was SANDUSKY Active Rocker KUPD, although the station was flat. UNIVISION Spanish Adult Hits KQMR (-0.7) came in sixth. And isn't it Murphy's Law. For all but a few days of the book, CBS outlet KZON was Talk (prior to a change to rhythmic on the final FRIDAY of the spring book). KZON nearly doubled their 18-34 shares to rank seventh. In eighth place was ENTRAVISION Regional Mexican KLNZ (-0.7). CLEAR CHANNEL Country KNIX (+1.1) moved up to ninth, while SUN CITY Latin Urban KVIB (+0.4) moved into the top ten.
18-49: KHOT won this in a major way, scoring another half share increase to climb over a seven share in demo. KHOT has a 2.2 share lead 18-49 over No. 2 KMXP (+1.2), who rose from sixth in the winter. Sliding from second to third (and losing 0.8 shares) was KZZP. KUPD holds in fourth place, with a 0.1 drop. The big move 18-49 goes to KKFR, which increases 0.9 and climbs from 13th to 5th. Tied with KKFR for the fifth spot 18-49 is CBS Country KMLE (+0.4), who was seventh in the winter. This moved KMLE ahead of format rival KNIX, who slipped a half share and slides from fifth to seventh in ranking. Tied with KNIX was KQMR (-0.9). KQMR was third in the winter. Tied for ninth are BONNEVILLE Adult Hits KPKX (flat) and KZON (+0.6).
25-54: KHOT was the winner here as well, with a 0.8 gain putting them over the six share mark. This gave them a 0.9 lead over CBS Classic Hits outlet KOOL (+0.5), who rose a half share and moved from third to second. The big growth station here was KMXP. "MIX" moves from No. 12 to No. 3 25-54 in the spring, and was up 1.4 shares. KMLE was the Country leader 18-49 and also 25-54, increasing 0.2 and moving over a 4 share. SANDUSKY Classic Rock KSLX (+0.5) rounds out the top five with a 0.5 gain. KPKX (-0.2) stays the same in sixth place. KUPD (+0.3) moves from No. 13 to No. 7. A big drop for two of CLEAR CHANNEL's 25-54 cash cows as KESZ (-1.1) slips from fourth to eighth (tying them with KQMR). KNIX had an off book, losing 1.6 shares to slip from No. 2 to No. 10, putting it in tie with KZZP (+0.4).
Tampa Goes Wild: WLLD New 18-34 Champ; Surges 18-49 And 25-54
Three stations shared top honors in the TAMPA spring book, with CBS Rhythmic WLLD scoring major gains across the board. Here's a look by demo:
18-34: CBS Rhythmic WLLD was up 1.9 shares to grab the top spot, replacing former leader CLEAR CHANNEL Top 40 WFLZ, which was off 2.1 shares. This gives WLLD a 1.6 share lead in the demo. 'FLZ sister WBTP (-0.2) was off slightly to rank a distant third (they are nearly four shares out of second place). Holding in fourth was COX Alternative WSUN (-0.1). 'SUN saw their lead over Active Rock rival, CLEAR CHANNEL's WXTB shaved to just one tenth of a point, as WXTB was up 1.3 shares. CBS Country WQYK (+0.4) now ranks seventh, off from sixth in the spring. COX AC WWRM was eighth (+0.5). MEGA Regional Mexican WLCC (+1.8) surged into ninth place, while CLEAR CHANNEL Country WFUS (flat) rounded out the top ten.
18-49: WFLZ was the winner 18-49, although their lead was trimmed quite a bit. WFLZ slid 0.9 shares. In the winter, they had a 3.2 share lead over WLLD, but now it's down to just three tenths as WLLD (+2.0) was just a notch short of an eight share. WQYK (+1.0) moves from fourth to third. WBTP slides from third to fourth, despite only a drop of a tenth. COX Classic Rock WXGL (+0.8) posted a nice gain, and moves from No. 12 to No. 5. CLEAR CHANNEL Talker WFLA (+0.2) is now sixth, tied with WFUS (-0.1). CBS Smooth Jazz WSJT (+1.1) is now eighth, moving all the way up from 17th in the winter. WSUN slides 0.6 and is now ninth, tied with WXTB (-0.9).
25-54: WFLZ also lost its 25-54 crown this book thanks to a drop of 0.6. They rank to second, while WQYK is the new champ. 'QYK saw growth of 0.6 and won by just a tenth. Surging into the No. 3 spot was WXGL (+1.3), who was tied for eighth in the winter. WFLA (+0.6) moves from fifth to fourth. But the leap of the book goes to WLLD, who surges from 16th in winter all the way to No. 5, increasing 2.1 shares (growth of 72%). In sixth place was WSJT (this gives CBS three of the top six in the 25-54 cell). WSJT was up 0.6. It was a good book 25-54 for Country as WFUS (+0.5) moves from No. 12 to No. 7. In eighth place was WBTP. COX Soft AC WDUV (-0.9) slid fourth to ninth, while CLEAR CHANNEL AC WMTX (-0.9) from fifth to tenth.

18-34: WDVE was No. 1 despite a 2.1 share drop. However, that still keeps them north of a 12 share. SHERDIAN Urban WDVE saw a 2.5 share increase to move into the second spot, passing CLEAR CHANNEL Top 40 WKST, which was off two tenths. Climbing from sixth to fourth was WDSY (+3.4), up 61% to winter. Ranking fifth was CLEAR CHANNEL Alternative WXDX (+0.4). SAUL FRISCHLING Adult Hits WRRK (BOB-FM) was flat and came in sixth. Meanwhile SAUL FRISCHLING AC WLTJ (+0.5) climbs into the tenth position, just ahead of RENDA rival WSHH.

WZPT was off a half share, and slides from No. 7 to No. 9. Meanwhile, AC competitors WLTJ (+0.3) and WSHH (-0.1) tied for tenth.
