CINCINNATI: WLW WINS 18-49, 25-54; WIZF NEW 18-34 CHAMP
18-34: RADIO ONE Urban WIZF moves from fourth to first, moving over 11 shares overall and posting a 2.9 share gain. CLEAR CHANNEL Rock WEBN holds the No. 2 spot, inching up 0.2. Meanwhile, sister Top 40 WKFS slips from first to third, dropping 2.3 shares. Grabbing the fourth to sixth spots are BONNEVILLE Country WUBE (up from sixth in the winter), thanks to a 1.5 share gain. Holding in the fifth spot was Hot AC WKRQ, despite being off 1.1 shares. Sliding from third to sixth is Alternative WSWD, which fell 2.2 shares. In seventh place was CUMULUS AC WRRM with growth of 2.2 shares. CLEAR CHANNEL Talk WLW-AM ranked eighth (+0.6). FIRST BROADCASTING Adult Hits WOXY (+2.6) was ninth and CUMULUS Classic Hits WGRR (-0.3) was 10th.
Citadel's newly acquired Minneapolis stations remain dominant in the Twin Cities
18-49: WLW is the winner here, climbing 2.2 shares to the mid-8s. WEBN slides from first to second, losing 1.1 shares but beating WUBE (+0.5) by a tenth. WIZF increases (1.1) to the mid-6s, while WKRQ (-0.6) tied with WRRM (+1.1) for the fifth spot. In seventh was WKFS, which lost 1.5 shares to fall under a 5 share in demo. WGRR (+0.2) was eighth. WSWD saw a 25% (1.5 share) decline, sliding from fifth to ninth. Rounding out the top 10 was RADIO ONE Urban AC WMOJ (flat).
25-54: WLW held on to the top spot among persons 25-54, growing nearly two shares. WLW was just short of double-digits. They also led WUBE by 2.5 shares this book, even though 'UBE was up 0.2. WGRR had a solid 25-54 book, as the Classic Hits station grew a half share and is now north of a 6.0. Rounding out the top five was WEBN (-1.4). Tied for sixth were WKRQ (-0.7) and WMOJ (+0.7). Tied for eighth (and just one-tenth behind 'KRQ and 'MOJ) were CLEAR CHANNEL Classic Rock WOFX (-2.4) and WIZF (+1.1). In 10th place was WSWD (-1.0).
Other notes: It was clearly an off book for Rock, especially in the upper demos, where WEBN, WSWD, and WOFX were all off over a share. In the head-to-head Hot AC battle, WKRQ leads CLEAR CHANNEL rival WVMX by 168% 18-34, 86% 18-49 and 63% 25-54 - the latter not placing top 10 in any of the three major demos.
MINNEAPOLIS: Citadel Rock Stations Lead In The Twin Cities
CITADEL's newly acquired Minneapolis stations remain dominant in the Twin Cities
18-34: Active Rock KXXR held on to the top spot and grew 1.8 shares this book, putting it well into double-digits. It led CLEAR CHANNEL Top 40 KDWB (+0.8) by over a share. Meanwhile, KXXR sister Classic Rock KQRS soared 3.7 shares to move into third place, falling just a hair short of double-digits. In fourth was RADIO ONE's soon-to-be-spun KTTB (+0.7). CLEAR CHANNEL Country KEEY slides 1.6 shares, but still ranks a solid fifth. In sixth place was HUBBARD Hot AC KSTP-FM (flat). Seventh was CLEAR CHANNEL AAA KTCZ (+0.9). Tied for ninth was CBS Adult Hits KZJK (-2.0) and sister AC WLTE (+0.9). Rounding out the top 10 was CLEAR CHANNEL Sports KFAN (-2.0).
18-49: No surprise here, as KQRS remains the leader. KQRS was up 1.4 shares this book, as it vaults over the 11-share mark. A very distant second (3.8 shares back) was KEEY (+0.5). KXXR ranked a solid third, up 0.4 to break the 7 share barrier. A strong book for KDWB, which moves up 1.4 shares to move from sixth to fourth. Growing and finishing fifth was KSTP-FM (+0.7). KTCZ (-0.1) slides from fifth to sixth. In a very solid seventh place was KTTB (+0.8), up from ninth in the Winter. Ranking eighth was KZJK (-0.4), ninth was WLTE (+0.3) and 10th was HUBBARD News/Talk KSTP-AM (+1.0).
25-54: As dominant as KQRS was 18-49, it was even bigger 25-54. KQRS moved up 1.5 shares to pull north of a 12 share in the 25-54 cell. That places it a staggering five shares ahead of its next closest competitor, KEEY (+1.4). KSTP-FM (+0.8) moves from a tie for fifth in the Winter to third in the Spring. KTCZ (-0.9) moves from second to fourth. KXXR claims a top-five ranking in all three demos, finishing fifth here - and only off a tenth. KDWB looked very good 25-54, surging 1.6 shares to grab the No. 6 spot, moving up from 12th in the Winter. WLTE (+0.2) tied KDWB for sixth. It's actually surprising to see no ACs in the top five in any demo. KZJK (-0.5) ranks eighth, while KSTP-AM (+1.0) came in ninth. Moving into the top 10 was KTTB (+1.0).
Other notes: Speaking of surprises, CBS News/Talk slid out of the top 10 25-54, ranking 11th after a drop of 0.6.
CLEVELAND: Clear Channel Scores Three Of Top Four 25-54
CLEAR CHANNEL grabbed three of the top four slots in Cleveland among adults 25-54. Country WGAR scored a two-share gain to move over the eight-share plateau. WGAR, which was fifth 25-54 in the Winter, scored a huge move in the Spring. Second was sister Talk WTAM (-0.2). Moving from second to fourth was Classic Hits WMJI (-1.3). The only station in the top four not owned by CLEAR CHANNEL was RADIO ONE Urban AC WZAK (-1.5), which relinquished the top spot it held in the winter and slipped to third.
The rest of the 25-54 demo is as follows: CBS AC WDOK (-0.6) moves from fourth to fifth to tie sister Classic Rock WNCX (+0.1). Making a sharp move from 10th to seventh is CLEAR CHANNEL Hot AC WMVX (+1.3). WENZ (+1.0) climbs from No. 11 to No. 8. WMVX's direct competitor, CBS outlet WQAL (+0.2), slides from eighth to ninth. Finally, ELYRIA-LORAIN Smooth Jazz WNWV (-1.3) slides to the No. 10 spot.
18-34: The top four remain the same from Winter: WENZ lost nearly two shares, but retained the top spot in demo. It still owns a 2.6 share lead over CLEAR CHANNEL Top 40 WAKS (-1.5), which was second. Holding in third place was WGAR (+0.7), which trailed WAKS by just 0.7. CBS Alternative WKRI (formerly WXRK) rose 0.3 to fourth. WMJI (+1.4) was a solid fifth (very good for a Classic Hits station). WZAK slips from fifth to sixth (off 0.1). Legendary CLEAR CHANNEL Rock WMMS was up 0.6 to rank seventh (although 'MMS is notably missing from the top 10 18-49 and 25-54), tying it with WQAL (+0.1). WMVX (+1.3) was ninth and WDOK (-0.4) ranked 10th.
18-49: WGAR moved from third to first in adults 18-49, thanks to a 1.4-share growth. This placed it ahead of RADIO ONE's two stations, as WENZ (flat) held on to second, while WZAK (-0.6) slid from first to third. WMJI slipped 0.6, but remained fourth. WTAM is fifth (-0.2), WAKS came in sixth (-0.4), but all three kept their rank from the Winter. However, tying WAKS for sixth were WMVX (+1.1) and WNCX (+0.4). In ninth place was WQAL (+0.3), while WKRI dropped 0.3 shares to finish 10th.
DALLAS: Kess Dominates Metroplex Key Demos; KDMX Surges
We've been told over the years that 12+ may just be beauty contest, as the real money is made in target demos. Regardless, CLEAR CHANNEL Top 40 KHKS is clearly one of America's finest stations, with the legendary KIDD KRADDICK in mornings. While KHKS won the 12+ crown by nearly a share (for a second book), it was beaten by UNIVISION Regional Mexican KESS. Led by EDDIE "PIOLIN" SOTELO in morning drive, KESS was No. 1 18-34 by 2.9 shares, and a half-share 18-49 and 25-54 over its closest rival.
18-34: KESS was most dominant here, actually moving from second to first with a 2.2 share gain, while KHKS (-1.0) slipped back to second. KHKS owns slightly over a half-share lead over RADIO ONE Urban KBFB (-0.6). While KBFB was off 0.6, it did pull ahead of format rival SERVICE'S KKDA-FM (K104), which was off 1.1 shares and now trails KBFB by three-tenths. CLEAR CHANNEL owns the next three positions: Spanish Adult Hits KEGL (La Preciosa) (+0.3) was fifth, while sister Alternative KDGE inched up 0.2 to rank sixth. In seventh place was Hot AC KDMX (+0.5). Meanwhile, "La Preciosa" rival, UNIVISION's KLNO (Recuerdo), was off 0.3 to rank eighth. LIBERMAN Regional Mexican KNOR (-0.3) tied for eighth with KLNO, and SALEM Christian AC KLTY (-0.7) rounded out the top 10. One note outside the top 10 was the growth of CBS Rhythmic AC KMVK, which grew 1.1 shares and now ranks 11th.
18-49: KESS vaults from fourth to first here (+1.1). KHKS is still a solid second, off slightly (-0.4). KKDA-FM drops 1.6 shares and moves from second to third, but is over a share behind KHKS. Tying KKDA-FM for third is KLTY (-0.3). KEGL moves into fifth place (+0.1) CUMULUS Sports KTCK (+0.3) was sixth. Tying for seventh was KBFB (-0.6) and a surging KDMX, which grew a full share and moved up from 14th. KLNO ranked ninth (+0.2), while the top Country station 18-49 was CUMULUS' KPLX (+0.2). KPLX overtook CITADEL rival KSCS, which is now 11th and off 0.6. CLEAR CHANNEL Americana KZPS also posted a 0.2 gain and is tied for 14th in the cell.
25-54: This is where KESS made its biggest move, as the station grew nearly a full share to surge from sixth to first overall. KTCK (+0.4) goes from fifth to second. Holding in third place was KHKS (-0.3), tied with Winter's champ KLTY (-0.5) - showing the strength of the Christian AC format in Dallas. Another station with a great book was KDMX, which surged 1.1 shares to move into the top five - after being 15th in the Winter. CBS AC KVIL (+0.3) moved up to sixth, while sister Adult Hits KJKK soars from 13th to 7th (+0.7). Rounding out the top 10 - and tied for eighth - are KLNO (+0.1), KPLX (+0.4) and KZPS (+0.2). The top 10 25-54 rank for KZPS's unique format is a win for those of us who love to see innovative new formats. KZPS even beat top-10 mainstays KKDA-FM, KSCS, and CBS Classic Hits KLUV. Meanwhile, KMVK (+0.7) also posted a nice gain as well.
