Clear Channel Clear Winners In Portland In September
CLEAR CHANNEL AC KKCW (K103) , CLEAR CHANNEL Oldies KLTH (OLDIES 106.7), and CLEAR CHANNEL Top 40 KKRZ (Z100) are the top three commercial frequencies going 9.9, 6.5, 5.5 P6+.
The Top 40s are tight in P18-34, with CLEAR CHANNEL Top 40-Rhythmic KXJM (JAMMIN' 107.5) (#3) just barely ahead of Z100 (#4). But the most amazing P18-34 story has to belong to OLDIES 106.7, which shoots to #5 from double digits each of the past three months. K103 is #1 in this and every major demo.
There’s an impressive, ongoing battle for the classics with ENTERCOM Classic Rock KGON, Oldies 106.7, and CLEAR CHANNEL Classic Rock KFBW (105.9 THE BREW) running tightly #3, #4, #5 P25-54, and separating a bit P35-64 with Oldies 106.7 at #2, KGON at #4, and 105.9 THE BREW at #6.
PORTLAND’s two Country stations are competitive at the younger and older ends, but there’s a clear leader in the money demo: ENTERCOM Country KWJJ. While KWJJ leads ALPHA BROADCASTING Country KUPL in most key demos, the two are close at the young end (#10t versus #13 P18-34) and at the older end of the demo spectrum (#5 versus #7). But P25-54 is where KWJJ wins big ranking #2 versus #12 for KUPL.
Snapshot Trends (3 consecutive months, up or down)
Trending UP - K103 (P18-34), ALPHA BROADCASTING Rock KUFO (P18-49, P35-64), ENTERCOM Alternative KNRK (P18-49)
Trending DOWN - KWJJ (P18-34), 105.9 THE BREW (P25-54, P35-64)
Reds Power WLW-A In September
The CINCINNATI REDS made the playoffs in SEPTEMBER for the first time in fifteen years and CLEAR CHANNEL Talk WLW-A was a winner too, #1 P6+, P18-49, P25-54, and P35-64. REDS fever was so high that WLW almost doubled their P6+ share versus the rest of the top 5 with 13.1, followed by CLEAR CHANNEL Top 40 WKFS (KISS 107) with 6.9, BONNEVILLE Country WUBE at 6.5, CUMULUS MEDIA PARTNERS Classic Hits WGRR at 6.4, and CLEAR CHANNEL Rock WEBN at 6.0.
SEPTEMBER was so big for WLW that they were a strong player even in the W18-34 demo, ranking #4 behind KISS, BONNEVILLE Hot AC WKRQ (Q102), and WUBE.
Snapshot Trends (3 consecutive months, up or down)
Trending UP - none
Trending DOWN - CLEAR CHANNEL Talk WKRC-A (P6+, P25-54, P35-64), RADIO ONE Urban WIZF (P18-34), CUMULUS Hot AC WNNF (FREQUENCY 94.1) (P25-54), WLW (P35-64), WUBE (P35-64)
Mixed Bag Of Winners In SLC-Ogden-Provo
BONNEVILLE's AC KSFI (FM 100), KSL BROADCASTING Talk KSL-A, and SIMMONS MEDIA Alternative KXRK are #1, #2, #3 P6+ in SEPTEMBER in SALT LAKE CITY-OGDEN-PROVO, 7.7, 7.2, 7.1. KXRK dominates P18-34 while KSFI and KSL-A take the upper demos.
CITADEL Country KUBL (K-BULL 93) maintains a significant lead over SLC’s other Country stations, followed by KSOP INC. Country KSOP-F (104.3 THE COWBOY) and SIMMONS MEDIA Country KEGA (101.5 THE EAGLE) in virtually every demo.
CLEAR CHANNEL Top 40 KZHT (#2) ranks just ahead of SIMMONS MEDIA GROUP’s Top 40/Rhythmic KUUU (U92) (#3t) and MILLCREEK BROADCASTING's Top 40/Mainstream KUDD (#3t) P18-34, but separates itself in older demos (#4 versus KUDD's #7 and KUUU's #9 P18-49).
No wonder there are so many AC stations in SLC; there's a lot of female listening share to be had. Five of the top eight stations W18-49 are some flavor of AC including #1 KSFI, which was also #1 W25-54 and #1 W35-64.
Snapshot Trends (3 consecutive months, up or down)
Trending UP - KNRS (P6+, P18-34, P25-54), KXRK (P18-34), KSFI (P18-49)

Country Is King In Milwaukee
CLEAR CHANNEL Country WMIL takes #1 or #2 in every key demo in SEPTEMBER in MILWAUKEE-RACINE. JOURNAL Talk WTMJ-A was also strong, dominating the News/Talk genre with a 10.3 (P6+) versus CLEAR CHANNEL Talk WISN-A’s 4.7. The spread between the two was proportional in P25-54 and P35-64.
ENTERCOM Top 40/Mainstream WXSS (103.7 KISS-FM) (#1 P18-34, #1 P18-49, #3 P25-54) appears to be managing the format challenge from CLEAR CHANNEL Top 40/Mainstream WRNW (RADIO NOW) (#6 P18-34, #11 P18-49, #14 P25-54).
ENTERCOM Hot AC WMYX (#5t W18-34, #4 W18-49, #5 W25-54) wins young, shares in the middle, and falls behind in upper demos versus MILWAUKEE RADIO ALLIANCE AC WLDB (B93.3) (#9t W18-34, #5 W18-49, #3 W25-54).
Classic battle with the classics: CLEAR CHANNEL Oldies WRIT and MILWAUKEE RADIO GROUP Classic Rock WKLH are separated by the slimmest of margins in share, ranking #6 and #7 (P25-54). The two flip their positions, again with the smallest possible share separation, ranking #3 and #4 (P35-64).
