RADIOCRUNCH founder ANTHONY ACAMPORA has just finished crunching the PPM numbers for HOUSTON and came to the following conclusions:
In HOUSTON, it's no surprise that CLEAR CHANNEL AC KODA was #1 overall; it even moved into double digits with a 10.1 6+.
Urban shares continue to grow in H-Town. RADIO ONE Urban AC and Urban-leaning Rhythmic KBXX are now #2 and #3 -- and are up 47% and 27%, respectively, since AUGUST.
CLEAR CHANNEL Spanish Contemporary KLOL (MEGA 101) is up a dramatic 46% since AUGUST (1.8 shares). Other shifts since AUGUST in Spanish: UNIVISION Regional Mexican KLTN (-7%), LIBERMAN Regional Mexican KTJM (+13%) and UNIVISION Spanish Adult Hits. KOVE was off 39% since AUGUST and has dropped for five consecutive months. However, UNIVISION got good news from new sign-on KAMA (AMOR), which took the frequency of Rhythmic KPTY. KAMA, in just five weeks on the air, is already at a 1.9, ahead of LIBERMAN rival KQQK, which is off 23% since AUGUST. Meanwhile, KPTY's move to a BEAUMONT signal that still covers large portions of HOUSTON still has a 2.8 6+.
In the non-ethnic formatted stations, very few saw larger numbers in holiday than AUGUST -- and basically all the commercial growth came from CLEAR CHANNEL. KODA is up 87%, News/Talk KTRH up 19%, and Alternative KTBZ up 6%. CBS Country KILT-FM also inched up 2%.
Other than that, most of the English-language non-ethnic stations have seen declines since AUGUST. CUMULUS Top 40 KRBE (-14%), CBS Sports KILT-AM (-17%), CLEAR CHANNEL Hot AC KHMX (-18%), COX Classic Country KTHT (-19%), CBS Smooth Jazz KHJZ and COX '80s KHPT (-23%), COX Classic Hits KHTC (-25%), and CLEAR CHANNEL Classic Rock KKRW (-30%). Next month will give a better gauge as KODA will be back in regular programming.
