BRIEF CAREER SYNOPSIS:
Craven Jacoby (that's the stage name you need to know). I have been doing part-time work for over 11 years. I have worked weekends, overnights, day parts, you name it I have pulled a shift on it. I have worked on multiple formats including Active Rock, AC, Country, etc. I want to break into this business full-time.
1) What do you do to maintain a positive mental attitude and stay motivated?
Just keep myself motivated. I know I belong in the biz. I just hope that there's one PD or OM out there who is ready to take on a talent who wants this badly. I have also leaned on my family and friends to keep my head above water.
2) How are you occupying your time, besides looking for a job?
I got myself a full-time job outside of radio and it isn't even close to the fun I have IN radio. Not even close by a million miles
3) Do you plan on sticking with radio?
I do, this is what I want to do for the rest of my life. I want to make this line of work my career. I do other things to keep my finances in order currently, but I want that full-time gig in radio.
4) What has been your best resource for finding out about job openings?
Mostly working directly off of allaccess.com, but also speaking with friends who are still in the business to see what or who might be out there looking for someone like myself.
5) What is the next job you'd like to obtain?
Full-time work in Rock or Country. I feel that my talent really fits best there, but I'm willing to work with what is available.
6) With consolidation there are definitely fewer jobs. How do you separate yourself from the pack?
Staying true to what I know has worked in the past, plus creating original content, and keeping a notebook of ideas that I have floating around. Also, anyone who knows me or meets me knows that I have a high level of enthusiasm. I want this badly.
7) Are you spending as much time listening to radio as you used to?
I am, which is a great way to keep myself on the pulse of the industry and to hear what others are currently doing.
8) What have you learned about yourself, others, or life in general in your downtime?
That you need to have that inner happiness to keep trying and trying and trying. It is very easy to just throw in the towel and go find a job. But I don't want just any job ... especially one that I dislike most days. I want that career that makes a difference in a town/city/community and I know I can be the talent who brings that all together.
9) How will this experience change you when you get back to work?
I will enjoy every moment (good or bad) because it is what I want to do, and what I was born to do ... entertaining a market that is ready for something different and new.
10) Where do you see yourself in five years? Ten years?
Hopefully celebrating my five or 10 years in the radio business as a full-time talent with the #1 show in multiple markets ... and not sitting here eating burnt grilled cheese.
