1) What do you do to maintain a positive mental attitude and stay motivated?
I am attentive to my wife's needs. It pays back great dividends. Ya dig?
2) What's the best way to get your foot in the door?
Having someone on your side who is already in the building does not hurt. If not, then you have got to be creative.
3) What has been your best resource for finding out about job openings?
Allaccess.com! (Shameless plug)
4) What's the craziest thing you've ever done to get a job?
Showed up with the thunder and commanded it!
5) With consolidation there are definitely fewer jobs. How do you separate yourself from the pack?
My proficiency in multiple departments has always kept me ahead of the competition. Having me on the team is like having at least three aces up your sleeve. How many in radio have been called "The Franchise Player" in print on allaccess.com? Google me and see: Baby Joel The Franchise Player.
6) What has been your biggest career accomplishment?
It happened when I interviewed the "The King of Cool" Henry Winkler, aka The Fonz. People would come up to me and say "Ayy!" That interview put me on the map. Some of the side effects from that included being called "Sex Machine" by soccer moms. True story, I wouldn't lie to myself.
7) Having been through all you have dealt with in this biz, what advice would you give people trying to break in?
Persistence breaks resistance! Your network determines your net worth. I learned the latter from J. Cruz on KPWR Power 106 (J Noise, KVEG). The difference between good and great are the little things. Ragin' Asian aka "The Yellow Brad Pitt" from CBS Radio San Francisco taught me that. Now we save the best for last, "Take ownership of your work and ALWAYS make it look good." - Sherita Saulsberry
8) How are you occupying your time, besides looking for a job?
Raising my son and following through with the maintenance program for my marriage. Shouts out to all the married couples out there, they know that staying together is a full time job. Then, there is bodybuilding.
9) Some people get discouraged or enlightened with the business when they actually step out of it for a while. Tell us your observations from the outside.
People say that I look like a miniature Buddha, so I stay enlightened. Live and let live. If you are meant to have it, then you are going to get it. Choose or lose. The hustle never stops.
10) What is the next job you'd like to obtain?
Nice try. The game is made to be sold, not told.
Bonus Questions
Seen any great movies?
Limitless, Top Gun, and Tombstone. "You're a daisy if you do!" Before I forget, my favorite most recent one is The Jungle Book (2016 film).
Don't judge me.
