BRIEF CAREER SYNOPSIS:
I am a Detroit native who has been working in radio for about eight years now. I have worked in Detroit as a morning show co-host for most of my career, but have also worked as a producer, promotions coordinator and was even on-air in Texas for a bit! I have been lucky enough to interview some of the world's biggest artists ... but I also know what it's like to be "the coffee girl."
1) How are you occupying your time, besides looking for a job?
My most recent co-host and I are recording podcasts once a week. We really wanted to still be able to connect with our audience and keep our voices working. It's been more fun than I originally anticipated.
2) Do you plan on sticking with radio?
I would love that. Radio is the only thing I've really dedicated myself to for the past eight years. I'm taking my time making sure it's the right situation for me, though.
3) What's the longest stretch you've had on the beach?
Two-and-a-half months!
4) What is the next job you'd like to obtain?
I'd like to be with an awesome supportive team ... wherever that may be. A two-person afternoon show would be awesome ;)
5) How are you finding the "courtesy level" at places you've applied?
Most have been great! I've had some very informative and pleasant phone conversations.
6) What's the most unbelievable question you've ever been asked in an interview?
"How soon can you get a passport???"
7) What's the most unbelievable on-air bit you were allowed to do?
One of my favorite and insane bits is Truth or Pair. Listeners call up and ask us anything. If we refuse to answer, they get the pair of tickets. Sounds pretty simple, but you would be shocked at the questions people come up with ... LOL/
8) What has been your biggest career accomplishment?
Honestly it wouldn't be just one moment. Like anyone, I've experienced major let-downs, low pay, empty promises, lay-offs, being separated from my family and friends ... but in the end, I'm so proud that I've been able to maintain my integrity and career while supporting myself. It hasn't been easy, but I'm so happy I did it!
9) What have you learned about yourself, others, or life in general in your downtime?
I've learned that success isn't defined by just one job, one particular salary or even ratings necessarily. Success can be found when you truly feel at peace with wherever you are. I'm just now learning that that's possible.
10) Having been through all you have dealt with in this biz, what advice would you give people trying to break in?
First of all, be absolutely sure you're down for the drama of moving. But other than that, just be yourself, respect others, be honest and don't be afraid to ask for help. You'd be surprised at how many radio veterans are happy to help and critique an aircheck or two.
Bonus Questions
Care to contribute a recipe for our "On The Beach" cookbook?
OMG yes! My almond butter sweet potato toast with edible wild violets is AMAZING! It's been my unemployment breakfast of choice ... LOL.
