Have an opinion? Add your comment below. What I have noticed from being on the outside looking in is that there are a lot of talented people who are out of work that do great shows and there are those that have the "I WON'T GET FIRED MENTALITY" and it is really upsetting, because they somehow keep their gigs write up after write up. I still don't understand that. I have also noticed that there are many carbon copies of show benchmarks and what was done in the past simply recycling just changing the names. Sadly, I hear this with no originality -- both local and syndicated

BRIEF CAREER SYNOPSIS:
I started at legendary KKXX/Bakersfield, CA in 1995 under Chris Squires. I then joined KISV to do mornings and Mix Show Dir. under Mark Feather and Mikey Fuentes in 1997. Stayed at KISV until 1999 and moved to KKSS/Albuquerque under Tony Manero for afternoons and Mix Show Director. From there moved to Fresno's B95 in 2001 for late-nights. I then transferred back to Bakersfield and KKXX as Mix Show Director and middays under Nick Elliott in 2003. After the format flip at KKXX in 2004 in jumped over to KKBB (Groove 993) under Tommy Del Rio, until 2006 when my mother passed away, I stepped down from doing afternoons and mixing for KKBB. Returned to KKBB in 2014 as a mixer and still mixing. I stayed away for eight years and began mixing for Danny Palacios. I hadn't been on the air as a talent or host in 10 years, yet I jumped in head first at KRUZ 1063 Spin Ventura Counties Classic Hip-Hop Station as PD and Mixer in 2016 until April 1st, 2019.
1) What do you do to maintain a positive mental attitude and to stay motivated?
My daily motivation that keeps me going has to be the little voices saying things could be worse. I have great support from The Baka Boyz and Danny Palacios, and my peers in and out of radio.
2) How are you occupying your time, besides looking for a job?
I am currently just polishing up my production and mixing skills each day waiting for what is to come.
3) Some people get discouraged or enlightened with the business when they actually step out of it for a while. Tell us your observations from the outside.

4) Do you plan on sticking with radio?
Radio is in my blood.
5) What's the longest stretch you've had on the beach?
This is the first time being on the beach. Funny thing is I was living 150 yards away from the Ventura County beaches. So the question is a good one for me.
6) What's the best way to get your foot in the door?
Knock and if they don't answer, knock again. Sometimes it's the 'who you know' and what you know plays last.
7) What has been your best resource for finding out about job openings?
Talking to my peers that I have worked with in the past and, of course, All Access.
8) What's the craziest thing you've ever done to get a job?
I pretty much bugged the PD until he was tired of me calling and showing up to remotes.
9) What is the next job you'd like to obtain?
I would like to continue programming, production and mixing. Those three are my passion that I enjoy and find myself at peace doing.
10) Are you finding salaries/benefits lower than you ever thought, about the same, or have you seen some pleasant surprises?
Everyone is cutting costs these days and adding more to the plate as the wage gets higher. I have seen some companies reward their talent in the past with longer contract renewals and that tells me the job is being done as expected.
