1) What do you do to maintain a positive mental attitude and stay motivated?
Exercise, listen to music, write lyrics and I have written two scripts, all while messing around with johnrenshaw.com.
2) Do you plan on sticking with the music/radio industry?
Yes, if it sticks with me!
3) What is your best way to get your foot in the door?
Intern. Work for free. Be willing to move anywhere. Start in a small town, and do not get married.
4) What's the craziest thing you've ever done to get a job?
Working for free in San Bernardino for a year and bussing back and forth to LA.
5) What is the next job you'd like to obtain?
Either sports or my brand of rock and roll
6) What's the most unbelievable question you've ever been asked in an interview?
Are you drug free?
7) With consolidation there are definitely fewer jobs, how do you separate yourself from the pack?
Look at my resume, call all my PD's. I invented today's brand of sports radio. Nobody can combine sports, movies, and pop culture music like me. Nobody studies sports as hard as I do. I am the best interviewer on the planet and the worst speller.
8) Are you spending as much time listening to radio as you used to?
All during my 13 years of sports radio I never listened. Too many hacks... plus I am way too addicted to music and need to get away from sports after a 4-hour gig.
9) Are you able to slow down and enjoy free time doing things with your family and friends that you probably did not have time to do while you were working?
NO!
10) In your opinion, what has been your biggest career accomplishment in the industry?
I was voted best national talk show by the Kansas City Star, and voted the second best national talk show by the LA Daily News.
