Please begin by giving us a brief career history ...
July 2002- August 2005, WYKS/Gainesville, FL Morning Show Co-host.
1) What do you do to maintain a positive mental attitude and stay motivated?
Well, being outta the game for a bit, it's definitely more difficult than you'd think. You get shot down a few times or deals don't work out the way you hope and it's easy to be discouraged. But I'm still here, and I'm not going anywhere.
2) How are you occupying your time, besides looking for a job?
Living in southern California, you'd better believe I'm working full time leasing condos, ha! How else is a girl supposed to live in this expensive-ass state? Other than that, I've been partying like a rock star while I have the option to not get up at 4am. :)
3) Some people get discouraged or enlightened with the business when they actually step out of it for a while. Tell us your observations from the outside.
Hmmmm. Well, it, uhhhh, sucks! My skin has thickened and I'm ready to kick in a few doors.
4) So far what has been your best resource for finding out about job openings?
All Access and Broadcasters Association Websites.
5) What is the next job you'd like to obtain?
I'm not really sure. I love being on a team, so preferably with some crazy people who can make me laugh (oh, and make the listeners laugh, too).
6) How are you finding the "courtesy level" at places you've applied? (Callbacks, emails, rejection letters, etc.)
Some people are overly-friendly, and they're usually the ones who want you to work in some po' dunk town for 5 bucks a year. Then there are the people who you want to talk to, and they usually are big poopstains. But then there are the few in between who make it all worthwhile.
7) Are you finding salaries/benefits lower than you ever thought, about the same, or have you seen some pleasant surprises?
Considering the cost of living in some cities, I've heard some ridiculous offers, but I'm sure the right thing will come along and sit right in my lap. This is my way of being overly optimistic.
8) What's the most unbelievable question you've ever been asked in an interview?
"I don't know if we will have any openings anytime soon, but are you single?"
9) Are you spending as much time listening to radio as you used to?
No! It's horrible, I miss it! But I've finally found some stations in San Diego I really enjoy.
10) What have you learned about yourself, others, or life in general in your downtime?
Moving out here to CA was a big leap of faith. Things have SERIOUSLY not worked out the way I planned in my naive little head. But I do think it was the best move for me, and I have no doubt my career will flourish.
Bonus Questions
Uh oh ... now you're on your own for getting new music. If applicable, name your three most recent purchases since leaving the biz.
Let's see. I can't stop listening to my Fall Out Boy. I just bought an old Yeah Yeah Yeah's album I saw in the store and realized I never had. Oh, and a few weeks ago I was in this old record store in L.A. and I bought a beat up ZZ Top record. That's right, I'm not afraid to admit it!
