Please begin by giving us a brief career history ...
I have been lucky to have worked at some great Rock stations: WMMS/Cleveland, KISS/San Antonio, WKDF/Nashville, WDIZ & WHTQ/Orlando and others over the past bunch of years.
1) What do you do to maintain a positive mental attitude and stay motivated?
Listen to my wife constantly tease me about not having a job.
2) How are you occupying your time, besides looking for a job?
Audiovault, NexGen and Telos have been currently replaced by Craftsman, Dewalt and Tuff Mate towels by Georgia Pacific.
3) Do you plan on sticking with the music/radio industry?
Sure. The burns on my right arm from welding remind me that you don't need workman's comp in the studio.
4) What's the longest stretch you've had on the beach?
Like a lot of folks you've had here, this has been the longest, going just past 6 months for me currently. After interviewing at 14 radio stations and 4 NASCAR Cup teams as a Media Relations/PR rep, our "Plan B", is to move back to our Orlando, Florida house 8/1 and start from scratch. We're actually pretty lucky. We've approached this as an opportunity versus being angry and bitter.
5) So far what has been your best resource for finding out about job openings?
What my mom mails me from the paper. She means well though.
6) How are you finding the "courtesy level" at places you've applied?
The one's who've always had the good rep, call back.
7) What's the most unbelievable question you've ever been asked in an interview?
GM: If that thermostat in my office says 69, what's the temperature?
Me: It's 69.
GM: Wrong, it's either 68 or 70 because 69 is indecent.
**I KID YOU NOT**8) With consolidation there are definitely fewer jobs. How do you separate yourself from the pack?
By learning Spanish as a second language.
9) Having been through all you have dealt with in this biz, what advice would you give people trying to break in?
To remember that your listener is your customer and it's still a great way
to make a living. It's high school with money.
10) Uh oh ... now you're on your own for getting new music. If applicable, name your three most recent purchases since leaving the biz.
May I name more than 3?
Sugarland, "Twice The Speed Of Life." Some cool Rat Pack thing with Dean, Frank & Sammy I found in Boone, NC. Also like the new Dixie Chicks. "Taking The Long Way." Glad some Country stations have started playing them again. Montgomery Gentry, "The Best Of - 1999-2005." Godsmack IV and Tool 10,000 Days.
