Please begin by giving us a brief career history ...
10 years ago I was an intern for "The White Trash Show" on WGTZ/Dayton. Since then I have had success at many CHR stations as a guy named BIG MAMA. I've done nights at WFLZ/Tampa and KTTB/Minneapolis, and mornings at WRDW/Philadelphia. I have also helped launch stations in Hawaii, Phoenix, Ft. Myers, and most recently in Spokane. Radio in Florida was natural for me, and I was on the air at night at two stations there. I won a Readers Poll one time for the Biggest Pig of the Airwaves, but that was Pre-Janet Boob Days. Now it's about being the most interactive personality and playing the best music, no matter the format ... maybe even Rock!
1) How are you occupying your time, besides looking for a job?
I am packing, getting ready for the call for the next job. Did I give you my phone number? 612-245-8833...just making sure!
2) What's the longest stretch you've had on the beach?
3 months, but I landed at WFLZ when that one ended.
3) What is the next job you'd like to obtain?
Major Market Nights or AM drive or PM drive or janitor for your building. Did I give you my number? 612-245-8833... just making sure.
4) What's the most unbelievable question you've ever been asked in an interview?
"What are all the African American Holidays?" Didn't get the job, but nailed the question!
5) What has been your biggest career accomplishment?
Ratings. I've been blessed getting ratings no matter where I go. Number 1 is my thing.
6) What have you learned about yourself, others, or life in general in your downtime?
I will always help my friends in the biz get jobs when they need them. It sucks being on the beach ...hell, I'm not even getting a tan!
7) If you were offered a similar position to what you were doing for considerably less money, would you seriously consider taking the job just to stay in the biz?
NO, it's about the money. This is my career, not my hobby. So many people think that it's OK not to make money. Not this guy.
8) Having been through all you have dealt with in this biz, what advice would you give people trying to break in?
A great work ethic is key. Work all day and night, do all you can do. There are 2 types of people in this business: assets and liabilities. Which one are you?
9) How will this experience change you when you get back to work?
I'll save more money.
10) Where do you see yourself in 5 years? 10 years?
5 Years: doing radio. 10 years: living in my beach condo. I'm going to win the Powerball and buy one of my old stations.
